FAQs

What sort of massage service do you offer?

Aroma Restoratives massages are for therapeutic and health purposes only, this is NOT a sexual service.

We will not tolerate ANY inappropriate jokes, comments, harassment or sexual requests. If this happens the therapist will terminate the massage immediately and report it to the local police as sexual harassment. No refunds will be given in these circumstances.

Contraindications - can I receive a massage due to a medical condition?

Client health and wellbeing is at the forefront of Aroma Restoratives client commitment so please take the time to read the below.

There are a number of local contraindications in which we avoid a specific area during the massage treatment, such as varicose veins in the legs or recent fractures etc. Your therapist will ask questions prior to the treatment commencing.

Some conditions such as asthma and diabetes, or if you are taking medication, may require medical approval. You may be asked to sign a medical declaration form prior to the treatment.

There are however some absolute contraindications. If any of the below apply we will unfortunately not be able to proceed with the treatment:

  • Fever
  • Contagious or infectious diseases
  • Diarrhoea or vomiting
  • Cancer (unless in terminal stages and then with medical permission)
  • Under the influence of drugs or alcohol

If you are at all unsure please check with your doctor prior to booking and obtain medical approval if required.

Can I eat or drink before a massage treatment?

It is recommended that you are well hydrated on the day of the massage and to drink a glass of water a few minutes prior to the treatment.

The benefits and effects of the massage treatment are significantly longer lasting if you drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

It is not advised to have a massage treatment on a full stomach, wait at least 1-2 hours after eating.

I do not want a certain part of my body to be massaged?

The areas of the body treatments cover are – back of legs, back, shoulders, head, face, neck, arms, stomach, front of legs and feet, although not all massage treatments cover all areas.

If you do not wish a certain area of your body to be treated that is no problem, please advise the therapist prior to the treatment commencing.

There may also be certain areas of the body that cannot be massaged due to local contraindications, such as varicose veins on the legs. In these instances we will avoid the direct area and treat around it.

Am I naked during the treatment?

No, by law you are required to wear underwear at all times during the massage treatment and disposable underwear is provided.

We will ask you to remove your clothing and change into disposable underwear however we will not be present in the room whilst you undress. Your modesty is protected at all times using towels, only the specific body part being treated is exposed.

Can I be massaged through my clothing?

No, as aromatherapy oils and direct touch of the skin are part of the treatment to restore health and to relax the body.

We will ask you to remove your clothing and change into disposable underwear however we will not be present in the room whilst you undress. Your modesty is protected at all times using towels, only the specific body part being treated is exposed.

The pressure isn’t right for me, should I say something?

Please do. You will not upset the therapist by asking for the pressure to be adjusted then you can fully relax and enjoy the experience. Pressure is a personal preference and everyone is different – help us to find your preference.

Please note that sports massage is not currently offered as a treatment. Our available treatments are suitable for general muscle soreness and fatigue but if you require specific, specialised deep tissue treatment for a sports injury we suggest that you visit a qualified professional in this field.

Should I talk to the therapist during the massage treatment?

To get the most out of the treatment clients need to be fully relaxed with their eyes closed but if you do prefer to chat the therapist will be happy to oblige.

Sometimes chatting is a sign of nerves, especially if this is a clients’ first massage. In these instances it is best to take some deep breaths and try not to think too much about what is happening and you will often relax very quickly.

What happens if I fall asleep?

A therapist takes sleeping as a big compliment as it means the client has succumbed to total relaxation! However, you can still be completely relaxed and not fall asleep, everyone is different.

If you do fall asleep the therapist will gently wake you to turn over during the treatment and to advise once the treatment is completed.

Should I tip my therapist?

This is always at your discretion. The therapist is there to relax you so please do not stress or worry that you should or shouldn’t be tipping.

If you do decide to tip it is up to you how much, any tip is very much appreciated by the therapist.

How regularly should I have a massage?

The ideal frequency for a massage is once or twice a week to maintain a relaxed and healthy body and mind.

However both time or money restraints may mean this is not possible. Therefore we suggest a regular monthly treatment session.

I’m pregnant, can I still have a massage?

Massage in the first three months of pregnancy is not recommended and Aroma Restoratives will not perform the treatment during this period.

Specific pregnancy and post natal massage is available to book for clients past 12 weeks of pregnancy. For more information visit the treatment page.

As a qualified aromatherapist a specific pregnancy oil blend has been designed using essential oils that is safe to use during pregnancy.

“Happy Ending” nudge, nudge, wink wink!
